Candlelighters Charity Day

Chris Lee of Lucas Lee & Partners was involved in the Candlelighters Charity Day at Sherburn Aero Club, where members from the club and their friends, volunteered their time to take the children and their families flying and racing their sports cars, along with games, a party and entertainment. Candlelighters is a group of parents of children treated at the Yorkshire paediatric oncology and haematology Unit at St. James’s Hospital, Leeds who are suffering from malignant diseases or severe blood diseases.

West Yorkshire firefighters prepare for sailing challenge

19/03/2012 – West Yorkshire firefighters prepare for sailing challenge.

Firefighters from across West Yorkshire are once again preparing for one of the biggest events in the emergency services calendar – the annual MJ Quinn UK Firefighters Sailing Challenge.

Huddersfield Watch Commander Darren Bagley has led West Yorkshire’s sailing team since 2006, and since then the 32-strong crew has gone from strength to strength.Each year the service enters four teams in the three-day event, which will take place in The Solent from 24th-26th April 2012.

As well as raising thousands of pounds for charity over the years, the team won the event in 2009 and they hope to bring the trophy home this year too.

In the run up to the challenge, Darren and his crew will again be raising money for Yorkshire Cancer Research, which funds world-class research, treatment and diagnosis projects across the region, and for the first time they will also be supporting Huddersfield Down Syndrome Support Group, which was founded by parents of children with Down Syndrome in the Huddersfield area.

As the crew pay for the trip themselves, every penny raised will go directly to the two charities involved.

The team has also once again secured sponsorship from local businesses Lucas Lee and Partners Chartered Surveyors and nationwidebathrooms.com.

Darren said: “West Yorkshire Fire Service is once again proud to be associated with Yorkshire Cancer Research, Lucas Lee and Partners Chartered Surveyors & nationwidebathrooms.com.

“We are very keen to continue our established tradition of raising money for Yorkshire Cancer Research. This year, our fundraising has a more poignant meaning to me personally as I recently lost my father to acute leukaemia.

“Our other chosen partner charity this year is Huddersfield Down Syndrome Support Group. I am personally involved with the organisation as my son was diagnosed with the condition when he was born 18 months ago.

“I would like to thank all the people who have sponsored us in the past and I hope they will continue to do so in the future.”
